Student - Security Worker
Position is open summer 2026
Occupational Summary:
The Student Security Worker supports the Campus Security Department in maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role works under the supervision of the Director of Security and assists with routine monitoring, patrols, and customer service functions across campus.
Work Performed:
- Conduct foot or vehicle patrols of assigned areas
- Support access control procedures (unlocking/locking buildings, monitoring entrances)
- Provide general assistance and information to students, staff, and visitors
- Report suspicious activity, hazards, or incidents to the Director of Security or appropriate personnel
- Assist with special events or campus activities, including crowd management and safety support
- Complete basic logs, reports, or incident documentation as required
- Follow all university safety policies and procedures
- Assist in monitoring campus buildings and grounds to promote safety and security
Required Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills/Training:
- Must be a current Newman University student enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credit hours)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable attendance, professionalism, and strong integrity
- Ability to remain calm and professional in various situations
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information or incidents
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work 12–20 hours per week around academic schedules
- Availability for afternoon/evening shifts and occasional special events
- Basic knowledge of campus layout and facilities preferred
- Previous customer service or security-related experience preferred
Physical Requirements During Work Shift:
- Ability to walk campus grounds for extended periods
- Ability to climb stairs and perform routine patrol activities
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to occasionally lift or move items up to 25 pounds
