Occupational Summary:

The Career Services Specialist coordinates and delivers career development services that prepare students and recent graduates for successful employment and professional growth. This position provides career education, supports internship and employment opportunities, develops employer partnerships, and implements programs that promote career readiness and workforce engagement.

Work Performed:

  1. Strategically identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national employers, alumni, community members, and University stakeholders to expand internships, job shadowing, cooperative education, and full-time employment opportunities for students and recent graduates.
  2. Coordinate and deliver career readiness programming, including workshops, presentations, and career-related events.
  3. Collaborate with faculty and staff to support student career preparation, including resume development, interviewing skills, and job search strategies.
  4. Assist students with career exploration, internship placements, cooperative education experiences, and employment opportunities.
  5. Promote Career Services programs and resources to students, employers, alumni, and the community.
  6. Design and execute an annual employer engagement plan that includes outreach to new employers, retention of existing partners, on-campus visits, employer information sessions, site visits, and industry-specific recruiting/networking events.
  7. Maintain Career Services resources, including job postings, employer information, internships, and career development materials.
  8. Ensure all employer engagement and recruiting activity adheres to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Ethical Professional Practice and applicable federal and state employment laws (EEOC, FLSA, FERPA).
  9. Serve on appropriate campus committees.
  10. Complete all University-required trainings, including FERPA and Title IX.
  11.   Provide collaborative assistance as necessary to other areas of Academic Student Support Services.
  1. Contribute to the overall success of the department and university by performing other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position.

Required Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills/Training:

  1. Professional experience in career services required. 
  2. A master’s degree in student personnel, counseling, or a related field preferred; bachelor’s degree required.
  3. Prior experience with job placement and/or job development is preferred.
  4. Demonstrated experience developing employer, alumni, or community partnerships preferred.
  5. Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  6. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.
  7. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  8. Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, employers, and community partners.
  9. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
