Student - Peer Career Coach

Runway Learning Center - Wichita, KS - Part Time

The Peer Career Coach will promote the mission of Career Services while actively assisting students with their career aspirations and supporting students’ career readiness at Newman University.  Peer Career Coaches are trained to provide resume and cover letter reviews, mock interviews, personal statement development, job searching skills, how to use Handshake and LinkedIn, support Handshake tasks, and provide valuable information to students regarding their career development while serving as a representative of Career Services.  

Work Performed:

  • Assist walk-in students with the development and content of resumes, cover letters, and interviewing via 1:1 consultation.
  • Assist in monitoring Handshake for new job postings and employer connections, as well as helping currently enrolled students in utilizing the database.
  • Assist in the facilitation of career workshops or presentations, as well as assisting in career fairs and career events on campus.
  • Promote career readiness skills to fellow students.
  • Provide ongoing customer service-oriented communication with all who visit Career Services and the Student Success Center.
  • Project a professional, positive, and supportive attitude to students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
  • Support and participate in campus community activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must be a full-time Newman University student.
  • Must be at least a junior level undergraduate student or a graduate student.
  • Possess strong customer service skills, written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking skills, and leadership experience.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn new software programs.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and within a collaborative team.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility with student and university schedules to accommodate office hours and ongoing events.
  • Outgoing and comfortable talking with groups of people.
  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Number of positions available:  3-5

Number of hours per week:  10 hours

Rate of pay: $15

Days and times needed:  Various times during office hours (Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.)
