Occupational Summary:

The Instructor of Music and Director of Choral Music at a private college is responsible for directing choral ensembles and organizing and directing musical events and musical theatrical productions. Responsibilities also include teaching students in various areas of music, including theory, performance, and history. This role involves incentive-based recruiting responsibilities.

 Work Performed:

  1. Direct and conduct college choral ensembles, including concert choirs and performance ensembles.
  2. Develop and implement a comprehensive choral curriculum that integrates vocal technique, music theory, and performance practice.
  3. Teach courses within the Music Minor program and general education curriculum.
  4. Mentor students, fostering their artistic and professional growth.
  5. Plan and lead rehearsals, performances, and special choral events both on and off campus.
  6. Fulfill recruiting goals and targets.
  7. Collaborate with faculty and guest artists to create interdisciplinary performance opportunities.
  8. Manage the choral program’s budget, including fundraising and grant writing for special projects.
  9. Engage with the community through outreach programs, workshops, and choral festivals.
  10. Stay informed on current trends in choral music education and performance.
  11. Complete University-required trainings including Title IX and FERPA.
  12. Contribute to the overall success of the Theatre and Music departments by performing all other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position.

Required Education/Experience/Skills/Training:

  1. Master’s or Doctoral degree in Choral Conducting, Music, or a related field.
  2. Proven experience directing choral ensembles at the collegiate level.
  3. Strong conducting, vocal pedagogy, and rehearsal techniques.
  4. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  5. Experience in programming diverse and engaging choral repertoire.
  6. Ability to recruit and inspire students with a passion for choral music.
  7. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
