Occupational Summary:

The Art and Humanities division at Newman University, a mission-driven, catholic, liberal arts university, invites applicants for an adjunct instructor for College Writing 1 courses. The instructor will teach courses in -person on campus, Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday mornings. The position begins with the Fall 2024 semester. 

These are temporary positions and do not include benefits. Position begins with the Fall 2024 semester.

Adjunct faculty contribute to the enrichment of our curriculum and work collaboratively with our faculty with teaching, learning and assessment. They are models of educated persons, exemplifying the virtues they seek to inspire in students -- curiosity, tolerance, honesty, fairness, and respect for diversity.

Work Performed:

  1. Teach undergraduate courses as assigned in keeping with departmental, university and accreditation standards, policies and procedures.
  2. Meet with Lead Instructor of assigned course a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the course to review syllabus, course materials, etc.
  3. Inform students of their progress by promptly returning assignments, quizzes, and examinations.
  4. Submit mid-term and final grades on Jet Stream by designated deadlines.
  5. Utilize the Learning Management System and other technology as appropriate to deliver and enhance the learning experience.

 

Job Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in English; University level teaching experience is preferred.
  2. Commitment to teaching academic writing skills to student writers.
  3. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
