Groundskeeper

Facilities - Wichita, KS - Full Time

Occupational Summary:

The Groundskeeper performs landscaping tasks using power equipment and hand tools to maintain the university’s grounds. This position will work in all weather conditions and be on call for emergency response situations. Some local travel may be required.

This position is responsible for cultivating and maintaining the institution's Catholic identity and its mission to empower graduates to transform society. Work Performed:

  1. Plant and maintain campus trees, shrubs, and plants, including pruning, cutting and removing trees as needed.
  2. Apply fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides on a regular schedule and as needed.
  3. Operate and maintain motor vehicles and other equipment on a regular basis.
  4. Inspect campus grounds to keep areas in a clean and neat appearance and free from hazards.
  5. Collect and empty all outside trash.
  6. Assist with snow and ice removal tasks; distribute salt and ice melt as needed and directed.
  7. Assist with indoor/outdoor maintenance of physical buildings as needed.
  8. Perform irrigation system servicing and maintenance.
  9. Escort and supervise outside vendors.
  10. Complete University-required training, including FERPA and Title IX.
  11. Other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma.
  2. Two years of previous related experience.
  3. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  4. Must be able to speak the English language and communicate with all levels of the organization.
  5. Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable under the University's policy at all times.
  6. Basic knowledge of OSHA and EPA requirements.
  7. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Physical Requirements during Work Shift:

  1. Ability to lift or move up to 100lbs.
  2. Ability to tolerate exposure to various chemical compounds and weather conditions.
  3. Ability to bend, stretch, twist, walk continuously, and access restricted spaces.
  4. Ability to carry supplies and equipment up and down stairs.
  5. Ability to safely operate all general maintenance and other equipment (i.e. lawn mower, forklift, tractor, etc.).
