Financial Aid Counselor
The Financial Aid Counselor plays a vital role in supporting student success by helping students and families understand, access, and navigate financial aid opportunities. This position provides guidance throughout the financial aid process, evaluates eligibility, administers aid programs, ensures compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations, and serves as a trusted resource for financial aid information. The Financial Aid Counselor is committed to delivering exceptional service while maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and a student-centered approach.
What You'll Do
- Advise students and families on financial aid programs, eligibility requirements, application procedures, and available funding opportunities.
- Review, evaluate, and process student financial aid records and aid packages, including management of outside scholarships.
- Support the administration and reconciliation of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Maintain accurate financial aid records within the University information system and assist with process improvements and data management.
- Represent the Financial Aid Office through workshops, FAFSA events, recruitment activities, and outreach initiatives.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current on financial aid regulations, policies, and best practices.
- Complete required institutional training and perform additional duties that support the mission and goals of the department.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least one year of experience in financial aid, higher education, or a related field.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of financial aid processes, regulations, and student service practices preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively assist students, families, faculty, and staff.
- Proficiency with computers, information systems, and standard software applications.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
