Occupational Summary:

The responsibility of a Subject Tutor is to offer in-person support to Newman students in their subject of expertise—such as biology, math, nursing, writing, etc. Tutors report to the Student Support Specialist who provides supervision, scheduling, and strategies for tutoring. Tutors must commit to continued professional development for the entirety of the semester. The job will begin in FALL 2024.

Subject Tutors should not only be proficient in their subject area but also patient, empathetic, and have the ability to listen and strategize. A goal of many sessions will be to help a student bridge the gap between confusion and comprehension. Tutors assist students in their development of foundational knowledge to build strong academic careers.

Subject Tutor Qualifications:

  1. Proficiency in their subject area, receiving A’s in 2XXX-level (or higher) courses.
  2. Must be recommended by a Newman faculty member of their subject area.
  3. Must be reliable and possess a strong work ethic.
  4. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Must have adequate computer skills.
  6. Must be currently enrolled as a full-time Newman University student.
  7. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Additional Information:

Subject Tutors will make $13.00/hour and can work a maximum of 140 hours per semester (approximately 10 hours per week).
