Student - Library Assistant
The Dugan library is staffed during the hours it is open. The main or circulation desk is often the first contact library users have with the library and its staff members must represent the library in a positive manner. Student assistants must be punctual and dependable. Hours needed are Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adhere to library policies and procedures
- Check out and check in materials
- Respond to queries for information and direction (phone & on-site)
- Assist users in locating library web page, the online catalog, and databases
- Take and transfer messages accurately
- Make ID cards & badges
- Service printer & copier (toner & paper)
- Retrieve library materials
- Shelve library materials
- Keep the library neat and orderly
- Assist in opening or closing the library (specific shifts)
- Assist with general library duties as required
- Late evening shifts may be necessary
- Complete University-required trainings, including FERPA and Title IX
- Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
- Continued full-time student status (minimum of 12 credit hours)
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Willingness and ability to work an established schedule
- Willingness to learn library policies and procedures
- Good communication skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work well with others and without close supervision
- Ability to use computers and library automation system
- Sufficient English language skills to understand verbal and written instructions and to communicate with library users.
