Assistant Professor of Humanities (Writing Across the Curriculum)
Newman University seeks an Assistant Professor of Humanities who is passionate about teaching courses that resonate with students and engage meaningful questions. The successful candidate will teach in the first‑year experience sequence and lead the continued development of the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program, supported by a half‑time course release. This role includes guiding faculty across disciplines in using writing to strengthen critical thinking and communication.
Applicants must have experience with a WAC program or demonstrable training in writing pedagogy applicable to WAC contexts. Applications received by March 7th will receive priority consideration.
Qualifications
- Terminal degree in the relevant field
- Proven experience teaching writing‑enriched courses
- Experience with Writing Across the Curriculum and/or the Navigator program (college and career readiness)
- Experience in writing program administration
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Teach humanities courses and support the first‑year student experience
- Develop and deliver general education curriculum, including syllabi and engaging lesson plans
- Coordinate faculty across campus to implement Writing Across the Curriculum and/or the Navigator program
- Work at the intersection of writing pedagogy and technology‑enhanced learning (e.g., generative AI)
- Provide individual and group professional development for new and continuing writing instructors
- Design and implement assessment strategies for student learning in WAC
